Its okay, not the greatest bluetooth playback for music.
At first I loved this head-unit. As time went on I came more and more annoyed and frustrated with it.-Bluetooth- phone has no issue connecting, but the audio will skip during playback. The only way to get around this is if you leave your phone near the unit and not touch it. Second issue with Bluetooth is that it is difficult to switch back and forth between phones for music.- Connecting your phone, I have a Samsung s8 and trying to run apps off your phone is a nightmare. First you have to go into setting and change it to USB otherwise it wont register that phone is trying to connect. Secondly, it'll work for a little bit and then randomly disconnect.-Apps for this deck are garbage for both iphones and androids. Its 2017, get it together Pioneer.

Goodbye Kenwood and Alpine, Hello Pioneer.
I tried an Alpine head unit and then a Kenwood unit. I could not get them to sound good in my car (they sounded OK, but I spend a lot of time in my car and the sound they produced, was not to my liking). Trust me, I tried to get it to sound good. Enter the AVH-X5800BHS. Wow what a difference. After installing the Pioneer and WITHOUT any adjustments to my amp or any EQ settings, it sounded better than both the Alpine and Kenwood. To me it is all about the sound. The Pioneer has great features, bells and whistles. But without good sound, none of that matters.I try not to use any EQ at all in my systems. I want to buy the best components I can afford at the time and adjust my amp and its' settings to get it to sound as good as it can. That may be a purist approach but I think it is the best approach. I want to hear the source the way the artist and engineer intended it to sound. I was able to get an incredible sound with the head unit and my Rockford Fosgate Amp - R600X5 and RF 6.5" Front door speakers, RG 6x9" Rear Deck speaker and a dual 12" RF Prime Subs. I am very happy with the sound. The number of options for audio sources is almost too much. HD Radio, USB Playback with FLAC file format support. Satellite Radio. CD, Bluetooth Audio. All excellent sounding sources too. The ability to play DVD's is also a huge plus.I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely buy again..

Good for the money, but a bit slow
I replaced a Pioneer 4200 with this one. Wanted the built in bluetooth and also the time alignment features. Those features work great. Overall the head unit is working fine and the extra features it has over my 4200 are nice. I have to agree with other posters though that the unit is slow to boot up and connect. Also, I find the interface to turn it off and also shuffle all songs on the ipod control a bit clunky. Granted, on the ipod side I've not researched through the massive manual to see if there is an easy way to do it, but I am finding that it is not simple to change the shuffle all songs play. On the 4200 I could just hit the shuffle button and it would reshuffle all the songs for me. No problem. So far, again not found if there is an easy way to do the same on this one in the manual, this one I can't just seem to hit the shuffle button and shuffle to all songs. If someone knows how this works then feel free to chime in.Basically, I use the ipod on the treadmill. Maybe I select a certain artist and shuffle one of their albums. When I get in the car the ipod is still shuffling just that album. Hitting the shuffle button does not get me away from that one album. What I've been doing is to go to the song listings, randomly click a song from the entire ipod song list view and then click shuffle. Also the button to swap to ipod doing the controlling is too close to other more used buttons. If you hit a bit of a bump or accidentally get too close you end up clicking the wrong button.Still, glad I have it. The Bluetooth is very nice. The ability to time align everything makes a huge difference.

Installing yourself? Do your research and save $$ on a self installation.
UPDATE - IMPORTANT:The review written below was for a Pioneer double din radio and not this Nakamichi. I am thinking that someone switched this model number and linked it to the Amazon number for the Pioneer radio I originally purchased, installed, and reviewed. The below review has NOTHING TO DO WITH NAKAMICHI. Do not buy this unit based on my review as I know nothing about this radio. I'm not sure how long my review has been linked to the incorrect product.======Original review below======The factory stereo in my 12 year old Toyota Sequoia needed to go bye bye. The cassette adapter stopped working awhile ago and the CD player was cutting out. The volume control would randomly increase and when I would turn it up it would sometimes turn down or vise versa.I spent a day installing this Pioneer AVH5800BHS and I am super happy with the results.Installation:It is highly recommended that you do your research before installation. I found myself having to order other parts to make this work with my existing factory JBL amplification. If you currently have a high-end factory stereo in your car, chances are it has a 'built in' amplifier. Most $20 wiring harness kits will not allow a connection to the amplifier. In my case, I needed an additional wiring harness amplifier turn-on interface. I had shopped around and found most local places and Best Buy having this item for about $150. That was an extra expense I was not expecting. I did some research and found one for about $65. Amazon has them for about $40. I bought mine from Crutchfield. I also purchased the Posi-Products Connector Kit 16 pieces for car stereos. These are excellent wire nuts. Highly recommended. The nice thing about this stereo is the wires are gathered in a 20 pin plug that is not permanent attached to the radio. This allows you to hook up all the wires from the radio to the wiring harness for your car in the convenience of your home. The wires not being attached to the radio make it so much easier to move the wires around without having to move and flip the radio along with the wires. It makes for a much easier install. If you are installing this yourself, make sure you get the wiring harness specific for your car. If you do not, then you will be required to cut the plug off your factory wiring to make it work. I mean, you could do that, but why would you? Especially if you ever wanted to put the old stereo back in for some reason or maybe get another stereo in the distant future. Plus, if you do not get a wiring harness, then the convenience of hooking up the wires at your kitchen table goes away. No wiring harness = sitting in your car wiring directly. Spend the money and get a wiring harness. I hooked up the radio wires to the wiring harness at my kitchen table. Then the stereo simply plugs into the factory plugs.Additionally, when I was ready put this in my dash, I had a gap on each side of my radio. Correcting that, required me to purchase an dash kit for my car. Best Buy had this kit for $16. I ended up throwing away most of the kit because all I needed was the two plastic gap blockers. They needed to be cut to fit. I needed about $0.35 of plastic pieces and I spent $16 to get it.So to recap, make sure you get the following items specific to the model car you plan on upgrading:Dash kitWiring harnessWire nuts - Posi-Products Connector Kit 16 pieces for Car Stereos are awesomeIf you have a factory amplifier - amplifier turn-on interfaceIf you have steering wheel controls, you will also need to get a special connection for that.Radio Review:Clean sound, highly configurable. The color combinations available on the display are amazing. The HD Radio is CD quality.AppsThe Apps interface I don't use. All the 'Apps' use the Bluetooth connection anyway. I tried them out and if you are using Pandora or Spotify, they are nice to have. I am a Slacker subscriber and all the song information is displayed on the screen over Bluetooth anyway...no app needed. The image here shows an example of that.PhonePhone calls over the stereo are crisp sounding and I have had no complaints from the people on the conversations I have had. Like most Bluetooth enabled devices, the stereo will copy your address book to the stereo.CD/DVDCD works well. Sounds great as expected I probably won't use it much as I am usually listening to music on my phone. I haven't got the DVD to work yet. I will be installing a brake bypass as I could not figure out where to hook the brake light indicator wire to get this to work. I doubt I will use the DVD much either.USBI haven't had a chance to try this feature out. I will try it with a flash drive. I could not get it to work with my phone. I will update this review later with my results.Backup Camera:I have not used this feature as I did not purchase a camera yet. I plan on getting one soon. I will update the review when I install a backup camera. Conclusion:All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. I highly recommend this stereo. Fairly easy to install if you do your research. Just remember to set some extra dollars aside for installation gear.
