True value in low-cost capture dongle
I bought this out of Youtuber Rob Trek's recommendation. (The device was $25 but now it's about half that!) As Trek's video shows, this is a solid performer. To test, I attach an HDMI micro (D) male to HDMI (A) female adapter to my Olympus OMD-EM10 Mark II, connect the adapter's HDMI A female connector to this dongle's input with an HDMI (A) male to HDMI (A) male cable. Finally, this dongle's output is connected to my MacbookPro with an HDMI (A) female to USB C male cable adapter. As Rob mentioned, there is some limitations on the resolution + frame rate combinations that your camera can set but mostly, 1080p @ 60fps should work. (Rob also mentioned that some lower frame rates may not work with this dongle but I didn't test.)>>> Note: When you use any such device, it is important to make sure that cables/adapters/converters between your video source and your computer are defect-free. I had the misfortune of buying an HDMI Micro (D) male to HDMI (A) male cable that happened to be defective. It really got me confused. I blamed this dongle, I blamed the software, I even blamed the HDMI micro connector on my camera before I suspected that it could be my adapter cable. To verify, I bought a simple HDMI Micro (male) to HDMI (female) adapter to use with the male-male HDMI cable that came with this dongle. That eliminated all my problems. If in doubt, connect your video source to your TV's HDMI input (without capture device) for direct verification.<<<On MacOS, the easiest test is to use QuickTime Player's "New Movie Recording" under Files. You will need to select the USB device as video source (by clicking the downward notch symbol by the side of the recording button). You may also separately select this device as audio source. Important: if your camera's HDMI control is set to "On", the card will force it into playback mode, which prevents you from doing streaming.I also further tested color fidelity. As Rob observed, the card indeed has a warm profile. When camera is in auto WB under CFL lighting, captured images on my MacBook Pro matches my EM-10 Mark II's display very well. In my experience, auto WB under CFL tends to show warmer color. In daytime, camera's display shows cooler color than visual. The captured images shows much warmer colors. The most striking color difference was detectable when I point the camera to my plasma TV. I used some Apple TV apps for testing. The camera display shows slightly warmer colors than the TV. But captured images can distort some colors terribly. These color distortions cannot easily be "fixed" in camera's white balance. This said, if this is used for video conferencing/vlog, etc. with natural light or other well tuned imitation light, there is no problem. As Rob said, you can always adjust the camera's WB to compensate. (The game testing with game display on plasma TV is extremely unnatural. Because all these TV technologies really only output three different colors. On top of this, the games that I use for testing do not use a wide range of colors.) For a device at this price level, the performance is more than satisfactory.

it works
was having trouble using 2 of the same cameras with usb in obs. ran hdmi out of one into this and out to a 20 foot usb cable and it shows up as a totally different input in obs and no more problems using 2 cameras! and the hdmi camera sends 4k now instead of 1080p which was the limit on its usb output.

Didn't work
I'm a streamer trying to find a cheap option for a capture card, it doesn't make sense from a tech perspective why they would cost $100 plus dollars. Especially if all you want to do is turn your professional camera and use it as a webcam for streaming. So I was excited for this option! Unfortunately I properly installed everything as directed and the image was distorted and after 5mins it just gave me the no signal bars. Tried to troubleshoot to no avail, in my case I was using Panasonic LUMIX G DMC-G85MK using Hdmi mini. Hope this helps, hope there is an inexpensive option to just use your camera to stream that works!

Installed instantly - works pretty good
This device allows you to flow HDMI signal into your computer and with teh use of Capture software like OBS, can record the output. Coupled with a cheap upscaler, you can copy old sources like VHS cassettes or the like. The throughput seems great. My only complaint is currently, there are no drivers that support stereo audio. For family films or whatnot, this probably isn't a problem but if you're transferring old movies from Laser Disc, like the original version of Star Wars (which isn't available anywhere) or out -of-print films like The Beatles "Let It Be" movie. Stereo would be required to even bother transferring. Other than that, for the price, it's good to go.

Clear Image for Zoom
I wanted a better camera than my laptop camera. A techno friend recommended this item if you have a camcorder available. I do so I ordered the device and set up. OOLALA! Great picture for Zoom recordings. It goes thru your camcorder into your computer. I highly recommend this device if you have a camcorder and you want a better picture than your laptop camera.

WOW!
very useful and and easy to use. Have used on 75 foot HDMI cables without loss. The price is great. I am using three of them every week and people love the live streaming. I need to pickup a couple as backups. A good answer for those just getting started and as a quick answer to special projects. Highly recommended.

Great product and great service!
I was impressed with how easy it was to set up: literally plug (then open/set up OBS) and play. The video quality looks great for the price! I had issues with the audio, but after speaking with the seller, we were able to sort it out!

Affordable and reliable
It does the job, a cheaper and reliable alternative to the camlink products. There might be an audio sync issue which can be rectified in obs by offsetting. Done 3 hours continuous streaming and no issues. I recommend it.Updated review after 9 months...It's still works fine no issues at all. Forgot to mention that I've tested and used on a 2017 MacBook pro. Haven't tried on a windows platform yet.
